5 Hot Wedding Trends for 2011 (by Perfect Day)

I just found this article on Perfect Day blog (South African Wedding Guide) and thought you might find it useful if you are planning your wedding this year:) I love that vintage is sooo in this season!

Out with the new and in with the old – VINTAGE is back!

We’ve seen vintage make a huge comeback in the fashion industry lately, and weddings have now followed this trend by incorporating vintage details into your wedding. Whether you decide to incorporate vintage in your dress, ornate details or photography, don’t be scared to be different and play around with different ideas.

Be environmentally friendly, think green and go eco-friendly

Brides nationwide started incorporating more eco-friendly ideas in their weddings last year, however this trend will definitely reach a new peak in 2011. Using items such as recycled paper invitations and programmes is just one way of making your wedding “green”. Purchasing food from local farms and stockists and charity donations will also categorise your wedding in this section. Making use of natural décor for your wedding is another way of keeping it eco-friendly.

Modernise

Even though vintage weddings might be making a comeback, some brides will still prefer the contemporary look with modern choices. Instead of traditional white or ivory dresses brides will incorporate their colour of choice in their wedding gown and might even opt for a shorter cocktail wedding dress instead of the traditional long gown. When it comes to décor choices a modern bride mixes table sizes and shapes, incorporates bolder colour choices, opts for cupcakes instead of a traditional cake and even organises an after-party for after the wedding reception.

Do it yourself – DIY why not

At first DIY brides had no choice but to start making their own things to cut down on the cost of the wedding, however, not only is this a big money saver, most brides have come to realise just how personalised they can make their wedding if they opt for DIY. With it being possible to purchase almost anything separately nowadays and put it together yourself, this trend will become increasingly popular.

Social media frenzy

We can’t deny the huge role that social media plays in our wedding planning process. Brides continue to make use of internet to inform their guests of wedding plans and update their status on Facebook and Twitter. This enables the majority of guests to be a part of the wedding planning process. Couples can also create their own websites whereby they are able to update and post images onto the site for all to see.
